Blankets, Blankets, and More Blankets
I’ve been on quite the blanket kick lately. Since finishing my Good Vibes Throw, Autumn Skies Afghan, and my 2019 Temperature Blanket, I was itching to design another one.
I was looking at one of my favorite recent designs, the Odyssey Wrap, and instantly got the idea to turn the linen stitch chevron concept into a blanket. And I’m so glad I did – the Bradley Afghan is instantly a new favorite!
Trying Color Made Easy for the First Time
I haven’t been shy about my initial aversion to Color Made Easy. To get you up to speed, here’s a very short version of a long story:
- Lion Brand used to make a yarn called Woolspun that everyone (including me) loved. I mean EVERYONE!
- Woolspun got discontinued and the internet went crazy. I’ve been mourning Woolspun since it left store shelves.
- Color Made Easy debuted shortly after Woolspun went away. It has a similar construction and weight to Woolspun, but it is a different fiber content and color palette.
- I’ve avoided CME since day 1 and I’ve been very vocal about it.
To be honest, I had no intention of EVER using Color Made Easy. But I’m a die-hard Lion Brand fan and decided to finally give it a try for the Bradley Afghan. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Color Made Easy.
CME is a 100% acrylic, bulky weight multi-plied yarn. It comes in 22 on-trend colors in big 200 gram balls. I chose two neutral colors, Basalt (dark gray) and Shade (light gray), for the main colors in my Bradley Afghan, and added Anthurium (a bright red-orange) as an accent. Lion Brand is offering a kit version of this project, which includes all the yarn you need plus a printed copy of the pattern. You can choose from 5 options for your blanket, making it personal to you and your decor.

Understanding the Bradley Afghan Shape
Part of the fun of the Bradley Afghan is the shape. It begins as a triangle and grows to the width of the blanket. You then begin decreasing on the far ends of the blanket to start creating the rectangular shape. Once the center point reaches the length of the blanket, you’ll square off the corners. Use the diagram below as a visual when working on your blanket.

Bradley Afghan Pattern Details
MATERIALS:
- Lion Brand Color Made Easy – Color A (Basalt), 2 balls; Color B (Shade), 3 balls; Color C (Anthurium), 2 balls
- 9mm crochet hook (like this one!)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch marker
GAUGE:
11 rows and 12 inches for four inches in (sc, ch 1) stitch pattern
FINISHED SIZE:
50″ long x 45″ wide. To make your afghan wider, continue with additional Row 4 repeats in the Body. To make your afghan longer, continue with additional Row 47 repeats in the Body.
ABBREVIATIONS:
- Ch = chain
- Rep = repeat
- Sc = single crochet
- Sc2tog = single crochet two together (decrease made)
- Sc3tog = single crochet three together (decrease made)
- Sl st = slip stitch
- Sp = space
- St = stitch

ROW 2: Ch 1, sc2tog over first sc and next ch-1 sp, ch 1, *sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * to last ch-1 sp, sc2tog over ch-1 sp and last sc, turn.
ROWS 3-6: Rep Row 2.
ROWS 7-18: With B, rep Row 2.
ROWS 19-30: With A, rep Row 2.

SIDE B
Join A with a sl st in marked st from Row 100 of Body. Rep Rows 1-46 from Side A. Fasten off after Row 46.
FINISHING
Weave in all ends. Block lightly if necessary.
