The Sunsoaked Collection, a Collaboration with Sewrella Yarn

It’s not too often that the stars align and two rad creatives have the same idea at the same time. But that’s exactly what happened when I got an email from Ashleigh of Sewrella Yarn. And now we have the Sunsoaked Collection, a 10-skein yarn series of hazy, summer-ready hues.
The Sunsoaked Collection is available for pre-order on SewrellaYarn.com on Saturday, May 15th. In the meantime, get acquainted with the colorways and the extra goodies.

Ashleigh of Sewrella and I go way back. I met her and her husband on a visit to NYC back in 2016. They were so nice, and we kept in touch as our respective crochet businesses thrived online. We finally got a chance to work together when she started Handmade Home Fibers (renamed Sewrella Yarn), her hand-dyed yarn company. She created 2 custom colorways – Ohio Blooms and Sunshine – for the Garden Party Shawl pattern.

I can’t put into words how excited I am to work with Ashleigh again, this time on a full collection of the most perfect colors I’ve ever seen.

The Inspiration

I think we can all agree, we’re pretty starved for a decent vacation these days. So my inspiration was about bringing my dream vacation to my yarn stash. The Sunsoaked Collection is all about the hazy, lazy, and best days of a California beach vacation. Punchy splashes of raspberry pink, sunny yellow, and teal bounce off of a neutral base with an overall vintage feel.
The Colorways
It’s not easy dyeing yarn, so I left the hard part of the Sunsoaked Collection up to Ashleigh and her team. Not only was I pleased with the colors, but I was also completely surprised. They pulled up so many colors from the few inspo pics I found, but they all work harmoniously together. It’s tough to articulate a color concept, but Ashleigh and I were clearly on the same wavelength.
The Sunsoaked Collection features 5 variegated shades and their matching tonal. And they are:

West Coast (variegated) and Catalina (tonal)
West Coast is the wildcard of the bunch. It’s a mix of deep ocean teal with vintage rust, blush, lavendar, sage, and sandy cream. It pairs perfectly with Catalina, a subdued and varied tonal that combines lilac and peach.

Huntington (tonal) and Sandcastle (variegated)
My pride and joy has to be Huntington, a cheery, sunkissed tonal yellow that’s basically me in a skein. Her compliment is Sandcastle, a laidback variegated skein with muted yellows, rose, purples, cream, and orange.

Endless Summer (variegated) and La Jolla (tonal)
If you need some vibrance in your life, get your hands on Endless Summer. This colorway radiates joy by combining teal, green haze, and amber yellow to celebrate beachy summer foliage. Standing boldly next to Endless Summer is La Jolla. And if there’s a prettier shade of blue out there, I haven’t seen it. I’m mean look – she’s perfect!

Reef (variegated) and Laguna (tonal)
Summer nights call for high energy and that’s what you get with Reef. Half of the skein has a soft cream base with speckles of hot pink, sunny yellow, and yummy purple. The other half is a thick band of blue that changes colors like the depth of the sea. The matching tonal is Laguna, an unassuming warm raspberry color. Sure, she’s pretty classy in the hank, but when she and Reef get together, it’s straight-up party time.

Surfboard (variegated) and North Shore (tonal)
If you can’t choose just one color, have them all in Surfboard. From ruby reds and juicy oranges to blues the color of the ocean itself, Surfboard is a rainbow on vacation. And to round out our mellow vibes, we have North Shore. I’m not much of a purple person but North Shore changed my mind. It’s a soothing combination of purple and grey that I didn’t know I was looking for all my life.

The Pattern – Westmont Shawl
You know I couldn’t give you a full yarn collection without a pattern to match! Meet the Westmont Shawl, a pattern as relaxing as your dream vacation.
Kick your feet up, put on your best poolside playlist, and get ready for hours of satisfying stitches. The Westmont Shawl is a meditative project with alternating sections of Tunisian crochet stitches. The variation within tonal skeins is highlighted in this shawl, which was designed with minimalism and wearability in mind. Best of all, this project is perfect for Tunisian crochet beginners and those trying fingering weight yarn for the first time.
Variegated yarn gets a lot of attention, but let’s not overlook the subtle beauty of tonal yarn. Ashleigh and the Sewrella team dreamed up 5 luscious shades that can do bad all by themselves. I made the Westmont Shawl in the color North Shore, a purple/grey. I don’t use purple often, but I couldn’t resist seeing how this color looked stitched up. Needless to say, I’m 100% in love.
The Westmont Shawl pattern requires 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn and a 5mm corded Tunisian crochet hook. It will be available for purchase at the 8pm ET on Saturday, May 15th. You’ll be able to find it on TLYarnCrafts.com and Ravelry.
Need some inspo for other patterns in the TLYC catalog? I had a lot of fun playing around with yarn pairings for some of my most popular crochet patterns:

Try the Loveland Shawl, a Tunisian crochet masterpiece. Make the original DK weight version with 2 skeins each of 2 colors, or go with the lighter fingering weight version, which only needs 1 skein each of 2 colors.
- Top: La Jolla and West Coast
- Middle: Sandcastle and Catalina
- Bottom: Surfboard and Huntington

Prefer traditional crochet? Make my tried-and-true Flatiron Shawl. This one can be made with any 3 fingering weight skeins.
- Top: La Jolla, Surfboard, and Huntington
- Middle: La Jolla, Reef, and Laguna
- Bottom: Catalina, North Shore, and West Coast
Another of my classic patterns made with traditional crochet is the Bronwyn Shawl. The original sample is made with sport weight, but you can easily swap in DK weight yarn. You’ll need 1 skein of color A, 2 skeins of color B, and 1 skein of color C.
- Top: Laguna, Huntington, and West Coast
- Middle: La Jolla, Endless Summer, and Huntington
- Bottom: Surfboard, North Shore, and Catalina
The Extras

In addition to the full individual skeins in the Sunsoaked Collection, save room for the many goodies that you can pick up as well.
- Sock sets (price TBD): Choose from 5 sock sets, each with a full skein of variegated yarn and an accompanying mini skein of the complementary tonal mentioned above.
- Hand cream, $15 each: Pick from two scents of rich hand cream, travel ready and so soothing to dry hands. Hand cream comes in a 2 oz. tin.
- Mini skeins (price TBD): Get one of each tonal colorway dyed on a mini skein and bundled together in one package. Minis are on the Classic Sock base.
- Loose leaf teas, $15 each: We’ll offer two teas with this collection, an herbal tea with citrus and fruit notes, and a white tea with fragrant lavender and sage. One 2 ounce bag makes 8-10 cups of tea.
- Wool wash, $15 each: Gentle castile soap serves as the base for two summery scents of no-rinse mild detergent, perfect for soaking your finished makes. One 4 ounce glass jar contains enough wool wash for 8 washes when used as suggested (1 tbsp wool wash to 1 gallon water).
Dates + Details
Now that you’re officially as excited as I am about the Sunsoaked Collection, here come the full details on how to get your hands on the yarn and additional goodies:
When and where can I purchase the Sunsoaked Collection yarn and goodies?
The Sunsoaked Collection is available for sale Saturday, May 15th at 8pm ET for 24 hours on SewrellaYarn.com. The collection listings will expire at 8pm ET Sunday, May 16th, and will not be available from Sewrella Yarn ever again. You can preview the entire collection on SewrellaYarn.com on Friday, May 15th.
How do I get my hands on the Westmont Shawl pattern?
The Westmont Shawl pattern will be available on TLYarnCrafts.com and Ravelry beginning at 8pm ET on Saturday, May 15th. The pattern will be available thereafter in both shops.
How does an unlimited pre-order work?
A pre-order is a shop update style that allows the shopper to purchase as much yarn as they want during the designated shopping period. Yarn is dyed to order with a 4-5 week processing time. After processing, the yarn is shipped via USPS and may take anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks to arrive.
I don’t live in the USA. Can I still get this yarn?
Yes! Sewrella ships worldwide. Be aware that you may incur additional customs fees depending on your country’s customs policies.
This yarn is in twisty hanks. How do I use it?
You’ll need to untwist and wind your hank before using – DO NOT try using your yarn directly from the hank. You can use a ball winder and swift to make yarn cakes like this. Or, use your hands and knees like this lady.
Does Sewrella Yarn offer a reward program?
An oddly specific question, but yes, they sure do! Their “Yarn Club” is a reward program that helps you earn perks like free shipping, discounts, and birthday rewards. New customers should make an account on SewrellaYarn.com (this can be done at checkout or sign up HERE) and click on the pink crown icon on the website to learn more about how the system works.

If you can’t get to the beach, bring the beach to you! The Sunsoaked Collection is ready and waiting for all of your summer making. Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, May 15th at 8pm ET!
